about

This idea came to me when I was sitting here listening to one of my older mixtapes (any artist that says he doesn't occasionally "get high on his own supply" is a bold-faced liar). Track 4 of the mixtape: "Desperation (The Franticness)" came on and I immediately started tapping my foot. In that moment I realized two things. 1) To this day this is one of my favorite songs of mine. 2) It's a shame virtually nobody that hasn't heard it already ever will because it's five years back in my catalog. So I did this.

What is this, exactly? A "best of?" No. I realize that as I grow and change as an artist my next batch of songs, the ones I'm currently working on, should always be my best. And I push myself to what I believe to be higher standards with every verse so a "best of" would just be a re-release of my most recent EP with a bonus track or two. No. It's not a "best of." "Greatest hits?" No. Some of these songs are well-known by knowers of my music, and some are practically only acknowledged by those of us involved in the making of the song. I'm not nearly popular enough to presume to call this a "greatest hits."

So I suppose it's just some favorites. I feel like certain tracks on my older mixtapes were skipped over, not given the attention they deserve, or ignored entirely (many of the people that could rap all four verses to "Popular" probably have never heard "Dragonfly's Lament," the song that comes before it both here and originally on the "Str8 Outta Platteville mixtape). If you don't have time to skim through my catalog and choose your own favorites, if what you're looking for is a comprehensive collection, I give you this. My fourteen favorite Fantom songs from the past five years. FREE to listen and download. By all means share it with your friends, burn copies, do what you want. Just promise you'll enjoy the music.
